| Mini Mac | the books offer.this isn't really very clear to me. some people have told me that all you need to do is pay £1.99 to get the books, receive the books then cancel. Others have told me that you need to pay £1.99 to get the books then buy a futher 2 boosk to get credit. (i'm expecting the other books to be expensive) I just want to hear about past experiences with this offer, and i want to know if this will actually be an expensive offer. thanks.

| iPod Nano 2GB | Re: the books offer.the two extra books are not part of the criteria for the offer, however it is part of your membership agreement with Books Direct. just use them to get relatives some books for birthday or christmas, works for me and it's two less things to worry about. two birds, one stone. |

![]() | Re: the books offer.it is 2 books... at least for me it is the page i went through had it clearly stated on the t&c, and in many places so i Screenshotted that ready for battle but when my free books came the letter also said 2 more books, so i figure its 2 you could probably get away with £6 per book too 6+6+2 = £14 approximate cost... receiving 4 books (2 of them bought, 2 of them free top gear books) |

| Mini Mac | Re: the books offer.i'm just gonna do what it says on the site. if once i've joined and it says i need to do four i'll argue that it said 2 when i joined. (i'll take screenshots etc.) should be fun

| iPod Nano 2GB | Re: the books offer.my 'free' books came through recently, and my join date was this month. it still says two. if they're trying to coerce you into buying four, threaten to bring trading standards down on them. they may reserve the rights to change their membership contracts, but they are not allowed to retro-actively enforce a changed contract without updating the advertised conditions and also informing current members who would fall under the new contract, and giving them a chance to terminate. sounds to me like they're trying to pull a fast one, and i for one don't like it when businesses try that. |

| Mini Mac | Re: the books offer.ye but it still says 2 at the moment, so i'd be signing up when it says two, so they couldn't argue that.

| Mini Mac | Re: the books offer.well then the freebie sites have to speak to them or do something. that's illegal. when someone signs up and gives their credit card details thinking they only have to buy 2 books (after the 2 "free" ones) and once they've put in their details it says 4 what d'you think they'll do? they'll complain about the site. etc. hmm i'll have a look .

| iPod Nano 2GB | Re: the books offer.that'll be the editor's choice, you need to actively refuse those either by going on the site or mailing a form back. those are set up backwards, so i'd advise lodging a complaint with them - they should have the editor's choice set to 'no' by default, and only ship the books if you actively accept. see if you can't get a refund by returning the books, then demand that they close your account. i'm not advising anyone to bother with books-direct, in fact i'm actively advising against it. i wouldn't have bothered with them in the first place if i'd known they'd be this much of a pain. |
