Re: New iPhone added...

The deal always has been (i.e with the first iphone as well as the 3g one) that you get the iphone then walk to o2 and arrange a contract. Anything regarding unlocking etc is beyond what any free iphone site is about. If you read this thread - http://www.exceem.co.uk/forums/givea...way-co-uk.html - you will see the following
Quote:
It will still be locked to a network and require a contract with that network to function however.
Its slightly different in that you have to use a voucher to buy it, but that is more down to how Apple/o2 wanted the iPhone to be distributed, so they could maximise the profit from the exclusive deal they made.

I hav'nt spent the time figuring out whos site belongs to who, but some people have been promoting iphone.giveaway as a way to get a sim free unlocked iphone through the post, which has never been the case.

On a different point, its going to be different comparing the "true" value of mobile phones when you start to link them with contracts - Emma got her HTC Touch Diamond (much better phone!) for £20, with just a £20 a month contract for 12 months (=£260) cheapest price is around £350 from a less unknown store and £380 from more well known ones

I saw the iPhone at 5 referrals and rushed straight to the GA site. I thought you would need an O2 contract to activate it, but also thought there would be a way round this - phones aren't that hard to unlock after all?

I did think I would have the iPhone in my hand though, to do with what I wanted. That's why I'm disappointed

I was kind of the same but tbh I'm not all that disappointed. It was only because of the low ref rates that I signed up to iPhone. Think I'll probably just try and save up my refs and go for a PAYG one when they're out or perhaps should I find a method, one with the contract.

Re: New iPhone added...

Yeah but how many refs will the PAYG iPhone be? A lot more than 5 I bet

I am estimating the PAYG iphone to be roughly £400 which I would estimate about 15 referrals does anyone know the price somehow?

Re: New iPhone added...

The thing is, at the moment the iPhone 3G cannot even be unlocked. Even when the unlock comes out, how long will it even last. I mean, apple have already announced the release of the next firmware. Basically its a lot of fafing to keep unlocking and jailbreaking the phone.

I initially wanted to get the iPhone 3G and then unlock it. However now I might just use the apple vouchers to get a contract phone. You will be able to benefit more from the 3G with the iPhone tariff anyway.

It works out at £17 per referral, or that's what it is for FJ anyway. So £400 comes in at... 24 referrals.

The iPhone 3g can be unlocked, it's just that there is little point in doing so when you are going to be tied to the contract anyway.

And once it is unlocked you don't have to upgrade the firmware if you don't want to. I have an old iPhone and that is exactly what I am doing. I have jailbroken it once and kept the old firmware. Now that version 2.0 is out and breakable I will probably at some point update, but you don't have to.

There is no way tab would charge the same amount for the PAYG phone and the contract phone PLUS CONTRACT! Also if you divide the cost of the contract and the phone by 24 you get a lot higher than £17! £40+ I believe

Didn't wanna start a new topic so thought i'd post here!

I submitted a support tickets to iphone giveaway and game console giveaway about a week ago and only noticed a couple of days ago I only received the email to say my support ticket had been submitted for game console giveaway. I was looking to transfer greens...has anyone managed to do this yet or get a reply?

Also fingers crossed the lovefilm report comes in for verification on 10th, have pendings about 3 weeks old. And still waiting on vcbet offer on game console giveaway after 3 weeks. All so stressful lol!</rant over>

Re: New iPhone added...

Fj have added the 8GB 3G iPhone to select.fj, and prob the rest of them, for 16 referals! But this is to preorder it

Therefore, im guessing tab etc will have something around the same number of referals!

The voucher card I received suggested not. In store only.

It was an Apple gift card so I had assumed only Apple stores.

Better option would have been Amazon voucher or bank transfer.

Tab,
While you are feeling so generous, even though I don't have any greens on my iphone account, nor do I actually have an account on the iphone site, can you please transfer the 43 greens I would have had, had I signed up to this site, to my istuff account so I can get my macbook air?

Thanks
Tom

I wouldn't think so because it would be an Apple Store Voucher and not an iPhone Voucher. So you would only be able to use it in the Apple store.

However I may be wrong...
