R.I.P Gary Speed

Was watching sky sports news when i was totally shocked to hear he passed. Much respect and admiration goes out to speed for the good job he was doing as wales manager and they were looking a very much improved team.

Fortunately for us we haven't been so depressed over things to reach that dark place where ending your life seems to be the only way out.

It's more selfish that he did it and left no indication why.
If he had said why then there could have been a little closure and understanding.

Can't help to wonder there is some fishy about his death, the previous week he appeared on soccer AM and had no signs of being unhappy and a friend commented that he met with him the day before and also saw no signs of being depressed, his character also made it seem unlikely.

Not many people seem to grasp depression and how horrible it is, and how invisible it might be to anyone else around (not that i have had it). But i have seen so many people think they know it all and say it is a selfish act. Speed seemed to be an incredibly selfless person throughout his life, and i have not ever heard one bad thing about him. What drove him to do it just beggars belief as with a wife and two kids it is incredibly odd as for someone that appears so selfless it does seem so so strange.

I've been through my own depressions and almost topped myself some time ago so don't try and give me your self righteous crap.

If he did do it himself then it was selfish of him not to give any indication why, either before or after the fact and there is no changing that.

For someone only hours earlier to be laughing and joking, making plans to go playing golf and generally 'being himself' it shows that he knew what path he was going down. There is no way that someone happy in life just goes home and does that in the blink of an eye.
He knew what he was doing.

If he did do it himself then he could have had the decency to at least throw out some sort of explanation to someone, anyone.

To be driven to that much of an extreme takes time, it's not just a flash of inspiration.

If he did do it himself he knew he was going to hurt someone in the process.

Not saying i know it all but from what i said nearly everyone i have spoken to and have heard about depression say it's how i described it. There are different levels of depression, and everyone handles it differently so stop being so rude and as you saying acting the know all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something his wife did. Apparently she found him, and it makes no sense for someone so selfless throughout his ife just do it. So many questions left unanswered from this though.

Really suprised at you saying this Ben, you've always come across as a very mature and thoughtful person. I don't think anyone is claiming to 'know it all', after all, we're all still here, so we can't possibly claim to know what happened.

In some cases once a person who has been depressed has decided to kill themselves they are happier. I suppose knowing that in a few hours or days you wont need to feel that pain helps relieve it for a while.

I had just woken up and was in my morning mood so i apologise.

But i do think it is wrong to jump to too many conclusions at this point and calling him so selfish. Will be very interested to see what the inquest says, because as i said what has happened just does not make sense for what Speed was like in the past.
