Need O2 data plan advice!

Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong section!

Basically i have an iphone 3g with a simplicity sim in it and getting an iphone 4 this weekend and getting swapped over to a new mini sim, that is all fine.

I want to give my old iphone to my girlfriend who is currently on a contract of some kind with O2 through the carphone warehouse. She rang them up to ask to have a monthly data plan bundle added to her contract and they have said a number of things which i think is a load of rubbish:

1.) Apparently O2 cant add a data plan as it was taken out through carphone
2.) Apparently the data plan that can be added to her account is not for iphones and wont count if she uses the internet
3.) The only way she can do it is by taking out another simplicity contract

Like i said im sure she can just add a monthly standard data bundle!?

Any help would be appreciated!
