Ok a suggestion.

I haven't been on eXceem for long but I have already seen quite a few posts of people posting their referral link, which is a BIG NO NO.

I have no doubt that the eXceem community reports said posts as do I, infact I reckon a mods PM box is constantly full.

Anyway what I also see is loads of people posting things like "Reported, your not allowed to post a refferal link." I also usually see like 5 posts of the exact same thing, for which I see no need.

eXceems thread system means that new posts are bumped to the top so you are simply giving this user more of a chance to get an "unfair" green for breaking the rules.

This is just my suggestion that I have seen on other sites.

1) You see a post with a referal link.

2) Report and tell the person they have gone wrong (if no one else has posted)

IF SOMEONE HAS POSTED =>

3) Just report and leave the thread. It serves no purpose now.

As I say I have not been here long nor am I in a / looking for a position of power, it's just a suggestion.

Connor

Well a while ago it was mentioned that there should be some sort of notification to say the thread has been reported and therefore prevent more people reporting and posting.

Well said though, it's annoying for everyone!

Maybe reporting should lock the thread, and it would then be unlocked by a mod once the offending item had been removed

You don't even need to lock the thread. A mod gets a PM or email when a post is reported so they will find it but even if they dont if noone bumps it up it will be lost in the mass that is the exceem forum

Guys, we've got enough mods on here for the thread not to stay up a long enough time, for anyone to actually benefit from posting their ref link.

I've been on several forums where new member's first few posts are moderated and wont show until approved.

why not just set it like many others and have a post limit before you can even post links. ie must have over 30 posts to be able to post any url. this will deter alot of noobs who just come and spam their links.. this works on other forums im a member of

At the OP and sgll, you both have great ideas

Id think it would be good to introduce the later, and until it is introduced, use the OP's idea where only one person explains the the rule breaker.

That's a nice idea, the only issue is that we already get a load of ridiculous bumps with people trying to get into the trades section which can be kind of annoying. So if there was a post limit before links, I could see it becoming more common.

The good thing about it being on exceem is that we are all signed up already (well pretty much) so having their link viewed doesn't really help them

I don't really see the problem. Everyone knows this tbh. Most people who post saying they have reported the post, add some advice and welcome to it too. Another reason they might do it is to have a rant!

Having reported posts allow threads to be locked would probably get abused by some!

I do agree with the "if you see a post saying reported, leave and move on"

While I could block links for new members, in some cases its easier to spot people breaking the rules and report them to the relevant site if needed etc
