Freebie site through another?

Hi,
I've been musing over the idea of building my own freebies site.
I've got a couple of ideas and the one I'm swaying towards developing is the following;

1. Register and confirm email
2. Members area has a list of gifts, Amazon vouchers etc. And the user selects their gift.
3. Member is told the amount of points needed for the gift, for example a £10 amazon voucher is 10 points.
4. The member is given a list of other freebie sites, such as appleground. They then chose one, go to the site through my referral link and go green on one offer.
5. They then do all the other sites listed and earn their points.
6. Cash out with points.

What do you think? I think it has a good chance of working, because people would be like, "Oh well, if I don't need to get any referrals, all I need to do is sign up to a site and complete 1 offer, I may as well!

Good idea? Bad Idea? Input is appreciated

Dont you kind of contradict what you are saying here?

You only need to do 1 offer but you need to sign up to all the other sites to earn points?

If you are attempting to create a new site my advice would be - stop and have a good look at yourself

If you dont find a highly dedicated and hard working person who can live without making any money for 6 months then go ahead

Otherwise - carry on with the other freebie sites like most of us other people

although I do seem to remember having similar conversations with the owner of Kudos network!! And look what a success that is!! I really dont think there is room for a new site on the market unless they can offer something that all the existing sites cant, I don't think you'd be able to!!

To be honest you'd have to ask the freebie sites permission to use them as offers first, and I can't see that you'd get that many agreeing to it (why would we want to promote a different freebie site?!)

He means they will get points on HIS website for signing up and completing an offer through his referral link

That's what I thought, just thought it seemed a bit strange.

So presumably you will fund their free gift through the free gifts you get from them going greens etc.?

Seems to be a few problems with that as far as I can see, but i'll build the suspense and reveal all later

Re: Freebie site through another?

Of course there is problems with it, nothing is ever 100% guaranteed to work. Mind, this is in the lower end of the 50%'s...

Anyway, what I'm saying is, instead of people having to refer 10 friends to get say, an iPod touch, they do 10 offers themselves through my site.

Make sense? So they sign up to other referral sites through me?

Of course there is problems I know about, such as I'd have to start out with a -profit. Maybe it's a silly idea, but I'm sure it could work...

If not, I'll just go ahead and make a generic freebie site

The only thing thats sets the current popular network owners apart from you is that they have done their research, taken a more professional approach to it and taken the risks they need.

As i said to someone before, you are setting up a business so you need to be aware of everything that is associated with that. IE accounting/financial management, overheads e.g. web-hosting or staff if necessary, start-up capital etc. etc.

No one should be discouraging you from setting up a freebie network if thats what you want to do, just make sure you dont do a half-arsed job of it. If you're going to do it, do it right and know what you are getting yourself into.

But I'm still missing how it would work.

OK so they sign up to you, do say 7 of your sites and expect an ipod in return. You won't have an ipod to give as you will have 1 green on 7 different sites. So how will you give them their ipod?

What about checking they don't go on hold? You give them their ipod somehow and when you eventually complete a site yourself they get put on hold so you don't get your gift, what happens then?

What about if you get one person do it, but no one else ever does it? You will have 1 green across 7 different sites but no gift?

How will you make a profit? The rates you get on the sites you are signed up are based on the freebie site taking some commission for profit. But in order for you take profit yourself you will have to give uncompetitive ref rates, otherwise you are just passing items straight on at best, and at worst losing money. With the number of freebie sites out there is your ref rates aren't competitive no one will go for it, or at least one or two might but not enough for you to make money.

Sorry to pi$$ on your chips, but I don't see how it could work.

I know exactly what you're saying, I've obviously thought about it.
In the beginning I would of course need some capital to start up with and yes, it would be a major risk. I do however bank on getting say, 20 people completing enough offers for me to get whatever.

And yeah, it wouldn't be very profitable, but it would be worth a try.

I may just go with a generic freebie site

But what about the points I raise above. With your model how do you "verify" a person? You can't because they are signed up to another site. People going on hold would be a big problem and I can't see any way to deal with that satisfactorily.

I also don't think your model gives you any room for additional greens you may get on a site (unless it is a rollover site), if they are lost when you reset an account you will be losing out as the sign up will still expect their gift but they are in effect a wasted green to you.

The ref rates we get from the freebie site take into account their slice of the referal money. If you then take your slice on top of that there is very little left to pass on to the sign up. You will have to deal with that one way or another and the only way that allows you to make a profit is to have higher ref rates which would put you at a disadvantage.

Re: Freebie site through another?

thats better... and relax..........

why not just do what a lot of us do and join ***** ******* or ***.** and get people to sign up for sites and make money!!

Use the money to buy things and at te same time realise that it takes up to 3 months to get any money from these offers and sometimes longer still!! Then decide if you want to have to put your own money on the line for 3 months, the last site that started up on here certainly didnt, and with all respect, I do not hear his sites mentioned too much in conversation.

pm me if you want some real, off forum, advice.

Re: Freebie site through another?

if I read this correctly this is just a really long winded way of trading, and the person who completes the offer could get far more by trading a green for green/cash than going through another site and getting these "points"

either way eXceem is not here for free market research, if you wish to discuss the rates involved for market research please contact me
