if you use firefox goto the view menu - page style - no style and you will see how the page looks to the search engine bots

Re: Websites

FurbtasticM, your site is ranking very well indeed, to be honest I am kinder shocked at some of the main keywords and the lack of competition for them.

I have actually done some research on your site to see what I was up againts, just a note, Google is a big war of webmasters fighting for top keywords.

There is two types of SEO, there is on site SEO which is tweaking your web site to be Google friendly, and there is also of site SEO, which is getting related sites to link back to you and who you also link back too.

There is getting backlinks from .gov, .edu and other high priority sites linking back to your site which will also boost rankings.

I'm no expert but that is just a tad of what I have learnt from friends online and online resources.

now would be the PERFECT time to learn, you dont need advanced knowledge, just the basics.

Basically how it works, you have a css file, this is where you set your styles, so for example you might have-

style 1 - Bold text, arial font, size 12
style 2 - italic text, verdana font, size 12
style 3 - background colour black

Then on your page you to assign those styles to text with a simple tag
Code:
<div id ="style1">
I have no formal training, just reading on the internet

Re: Websites

The only formal training I have is in insolvency

I set up the site via a free StyleShout template and now the basics about CSS. The template came with several different style and colour layouts...Bluee.css, Orange.css etc. I also know enough to edit a CSS file.

What I had/have no idea about is Jon's comment "make more effective use of css" ?

I'm interested in getting a little more advice on CEO not only for my free gift sites but also for my photography sites.

I take 'neat' code is only the start, what else can be done?

Can you afford to buy a domain from 123-reg? It's no more than about £10 for 2 years I think. Then you can host a site at Freehostia for free without any ads! (I can help you set that up if your not sure) It'll mean you have your own domain name and no ads on the site!

The only thing I would say regarding the design is just to change the 'CLICK HERE' back to black and non-capitals and do it in bold instead!

And maybe down the side just have:

Re: Websites

claire do you have a registered domain name that forwards to your freewebs address?
i thought of this but freewebs is very irritating as their multi uploader doesnt work and i have to upload each file seperately.

on ezyrewards.com you can complete completely free offers and get enough points for a .info domain, and im thinking of using this with freehostia.

is freehostia easy to use/upload sites to? thanks, Grinder.
