I'm looking to buy a laptop.. Help!

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a laptop in the next month - well, before I go back to Australia - and I've have spent about a week researching different prices and system specs. I feel a little discouraged because there's only a handful of laptops that come in the color blue - and as pedantic as that is - my new laptop has got to be blue!

I'm pretty much looking for the following..

15.4" screen or larger.
2GB of RAM or more.
200GB harddrive or more.
512mb graphics or more.

And it has to be blue!


I found this adorable one - which is WAY too small - for only £215 but seeing as one of my main requirements is being able to do design work on the road it's 8.9" screen is next to useless in that respect. An awesome little machine just for email/internet/word processing though!

Now.. this is the one I keep coming back to..

What do you think? It seems perfect to me but I'm a little unsure because it is quite a bit of money! Though I figure, why spend £300-£400 on a laptop I'm not satisfied with? I should pay the extra to get the one I really want, yeah?

Is 3 hours of battery life rubbish or pretty standard? I've never had a laptop before so I'm not so sure but it doesn't sound very good.

I'd appreciate ANY advice at all.

i've tried the gemstone at a shop, and i know it's just first glance but it was amazing! looks superb and has great specs. (i have an acer laptop with a 17" screen, and i can tell you that acer make decent laptops!)

i think you should go for it. full hd, 250gb hard drive (which is really all you need) and pretty much all the nescessary things.

as for battery life, my laptop (pretty new, only about 5 months old) last for about 2 and a half hours charge at the most (even when new) but it did say that when i bought it. Thing is most of the time it's plugged in. 3 hours to me sounds like a battery life you could live with.

Haha - I've built a couple of desktop computers before so I probably could.. but I'm really busy with work so finding the time to research all the bits and pieces would be hell! I think I'd rather pay the extra money to get a finished product.

i have an acer and its good would recommend them ..however if you could get past it having to be blue you could get a better laptop for your money

I'm somewhat obsessed with the color blue..

Opting for anything else would be a dealbreaker I think.

For example.. my bedroom walls are blue, my bedsheets and doona covers are blue, most of my clothes are blue, my fish are blue, my cat is a blue eyed blue colorpoint ragdoll, my boyfriend has blue eyes, my PSP is blue, my PSP has a blue case, my mobile phone is blue, my desk lamp is blue, my work folders are blue, my sketchbook is blue, my computer background wallpaper is blue (featuring Daniel Jackson who has blue eyes), my filofax is blue, my digital camera is blue, the shoelaces in my boots are blue, I have blue hair extensions.. etc etc etc.

I think you get the picture.

It's strange but I never think of that song - ever! My boyfriend did all the time when he was getting used to my blue obsession though.

To add to that - I hate the song! Well, not hate - but it's not a song I particularly like, haha - go figure.

and acer do make great laptops
and surly you for ned over 200gb of ram? what would anyone possible use that for?
