I can't believe I've only just heard about this, the PlayTV plugin that turns your PS3 into a hard disc recorder and freeview tuner, allowing you to pause and rewind live tv, record stuff onto the hard disc, and watch a different channel while you're recording. It's insane

So now they're turning it into a hard disc recorder, tv tuner, blu-ray player, and amazing games console. Why do people buy the xbox 360 again?

I wonder how many people are going to get this as a freebie

The most recent estimate I saw was £80. Considering it's a dual tuner, it seems very reasonable to me.

Well i technically have enough now on the new incentive network but im just waiting on those annoying lovefilm pendings, also im not ordering til the new 80gb with ds3 comes out (same price as the 40gb now). I'm hoping the pendings will go through just before august 27th or whatever the release date is, then i can chuck in a custom order somewhere for some games etc!

The tuner will be very useful especially with the 80gb hdd (could upgrade if its not enough) as i could have it in my room where i currently dont have any recorder, just a dvd/hdd recorder downstairs. Getting a ps3 + this will also motivate me to fix my psp!

I'm tempted to get a PSP just to use it as a mini TV!
I mean, streaming live TV from your PS3 to anywhere in the world that has a wifi connection, that's just genius.

Will have to get me one of these when I get my PS3, think I might sell my PS3 I get and get an 80GB one...will need all the extra GB's if I get one of these!

why not get a massive new MP4 player? The archos ones are great, I've got a 40GB one with loads of family guy on it

good video quality, good sound w/ headphones etc. nice interface.
never let me down
like 6hours play time to on a full charge

I prefer my 360 Elite.

For me, cos all my mates have 360s and Xbox Live is so much better than PS3 online.

And already have a HD recorder and Sky + so don't need that stuff. Plus won't go near blu-ray unless the price of the discs come down.

actually, sony should enable people to plug in external hard drives in the USB drives, now that would be cool.

Fair enough, if you've already got the the extra functionality they're offering then I can't deny the Xbox has a far better infrastructure for online play, mostly because people pay for it. We'll see how PSN fares in the future, so you never know what'll happen in the future.

Aside from some features of the gaming side of things, there's a certain collection of pieces of equipment that together will do what the PS3 does (ie. sky+, slingbox, HD recorder, blu ray player e.t.c.), but the point is it's doing all these things in once piece of equipment, that also happens to be a great games console. Which is very handy for a student like me, moving my stuff to and from uni every 10 weeks.
