Page Size

Hey guys , a few more questions :

1) Im creating a banner for the top of my page. Im designing it for 800x600 screen resolution but was wondering how big the banner should actually be to make no scroll bar along the bottom because surely it should be 800 wide because of the scroll bar at the side of the page?

2) Has anyone used hostgator before? are they good?

3) When I asked how to make my page viewed well in all resolution I was told to centre it all like exceem does. I'm just a bit confused at how this works? How do they make it so that the blueish bars at the side only appear when your in a resolution bigger than 800x600?

Thanks in advance.

yes that is correct there are still some old pc's that have an 800 px wide screen, and that is why you should always use 800 px wide or percentages.

2) Has anyone used hostgator before? are they good?

most people here recommend them, I suggest googleing for some discount codes before you pay.

the blue bars are the background colour and to center it just use the center tags

before
and after
(I think that should work.)

Thanks in advance.
my answers are in red. hope I helped

Thanks , but what you said about percentages. I've heard people say this alot but haven't understood how they work. Do I just put width="100%" or is it a bit more complex?

Edit : I think I also worded the first question incorrectly. I meant ; Would the banner be 800 wide or a bit smaller because of the side scrolling bar?

yeah thats basically it. but you have to keep it in proportions or you will get stretched images.

Does that fix the problem of the screen resolutions or not? I mean , would 100% for width mean take up the whole pages width or be the original pictures width?

it would take up the whole pages width. the percentages are in relation to the page. not the image you are resizing

Another quick question :

I've got an image (a menu bar) that I want to put on my page but obviously I want different parts of it to look to different places so I was wondering if this was possible?

Edit : Also , looking at my page now (with the banner on at 100%) I have noticed that there is a small white rim around the edge. Is there a way to get rid of this?

um I think it might be posible but it might be hard to do. I suggest making a picture for each button on the menu bar and then aligning them together to form the menue bar.

again I'm not sure but I think its to do with the browser, try opening your webpage in a different browser.

answer in red, sorry I couldn't help that much
