Thanks for the comp guys. It certainly got my brain going!

Any explanation of the 6172? and how did people guess that???

There are 10,000 4 digit combinations of 0-9 so it must of had some sort of meaning?

I created riddles that I thought everyone had a fair chance at. The fact you think a chimp could have finished it means I achieved that

It was still a puzzle because you had to find a method of arriving at the answer. If you had randomly put in 4 digit numbers all day you may well have taken a month to complete it. The solution was to work methodically through each possible answer.

I still don't understand why 6172? Was it just random?
And how would knowing a programmer have helped?
Was there a clue I missed that helped so many people guess correctly (or work it out)?
I'm so confused!

Thanks FJ.

My programmer friend said he could program a script that would enter each number in sequence until it said anything but 'Nope, thats not right. Try Again'

This would run for a few minutes and then give the correct answer.

This is hoe knowing a programmer would have helped.

I sat for about 7 hours straight typing in each individual number until I got it.

It was a completely random number. I thought the only way of solving it would be to go through each number methodically, so I went for one just after half way from 0000 to 9999... that's the only thought process that went into it.

And that's what I believed was the only way of answering it would be, so I'm glad you won by doing that!
