Gumtree flooding

Hi. I reported a spammer to FreebieJeebies support on 8 May and chased it up on 14 May. I have had no response to the outstanding ticket ID BE488C, hence I am posting here to see whether they intend to do anything about it.

He posts about 200 fake ads a day on Gumtree.com. Camcorders, Ipods, Apple TVs, Xbox, PS3 - all these sections and more have been flooded for the past four months, making them unuseable. Each ad has the link http://www.freebie.has.it/. This redirects to a page with the following referral links:

[edit]links removed[/edit]

Could someone from FreebieJeebies confirm this has been dealt with?

Needless to say I have tried getting his various sites and redirects shut down, but he just opens up another one within minutes. He needs to be stopped at source, by FreebieJeebies, quickly.

(Rack111.com have just now closed his latest page, but he'll be back up again within the hour.)

Heh. Ten minutes it took him to get the page hosted at lycos.co.uk. He's quick...

To be honest, I have better things to do, but I think FJ and other similar outfits have a duty to the rest of us not to encourage spamming, and this means stamping on this kind of idiot quickly, which they have not done thus far.

I'm some geezer on the internet.

No.

No.

I am sick of this spamming. I've come here as FJ seem to be happy to let this idiot spam his links, which they forbid under their T&C. As they post here I thought I would contact them through this forum.

OK?

Re: Gumtree flooding

i agree.

while posting single adds in the freebies section of gumtree could be considered acceptable the mass spaming of other areas is just pure spam and annoying. i was looking at the consoles area to see if any bargins were to be had and 80% of listings on the front page were all freebie related posts - doing this level of mass spam can only hurt things in the long run - keep it to the freebies section!

Thanks for the support - I shall wear it always...

All those ads are from this one source. It's at least 200 a day, so either he's got a team or it's automated somehow. Gumtree seem quite unable to cope with it.

I guess the problem with this kind of thread is the fact it just draws attention to methods that some members wont know about and might give them ideas to copy what is already happening

I know for me this way seem too much like hard work with very little greens.

To me i think who ever is doing it has way too much time on there hands, they could be doing a better way or thinking about a better way of getting greens for all the time they are putting in spamming

Yeah, could have f***** up a lot of peoples sources of greens now :/

Although, if it was your website and people were spamming, I'd be pissed off too.

Re: Gumtree flooding

What pi**es me off is that people like this don't realise its only going to end up hurting themselves as well as everyone else in the long run.

What if it was a newspaper that they were spamming ads in. People buying the paper are going to get fed up with the same spam ads over and over and when they eventually stop buying it and the paper stops being printed no one will be able to place ads in it.

But it seems like since its only a website, its OK.

Re: Gumtree flooding

if people get greens from advertising their site on gumtree/freeads etc I have no idea how!! as i did it for awhile and didn't get a single one.

plus its breaking the rules of those sites and therefore the freebie sites.

Re: Gumtree flooding

Just got a reply from FreebieJeebies support. Fair play to them, they responded positively within an hour to my post!

Hopefully this will put a stick in matey's spokes.

Thanks for being a (relatively) friendly bunch to a new poster.

Re: Gumtree flooding

I think we are pretty much all in agreement that flooding of any site is unacceptable, and I somehow doubt that the person is getting much out of it anyway! I think I put one post on gumtree months ago, got nothing out of it, so gave up!

Re: Gumtree flooding

I used to use it, got a few greens. I don't find it works anymore which is a shame as I have since discovered a really easy way to automate it and get hundreds of ads up there with just 5 mins time a day.

When I find a new method that works and can be exploited with this kind of automation i'll be away!!

Re: Gumtree flooding

Sorry that we didn't reply to you earlier. We did mention on Tuesday evening on another thread that we were away from Wednesday until earlier today with no Internet support. We have spent the last couple of hours replying to all support tickets and we are now back up to date. Sorry about the delays caused.
