Well what sort of size is the space for the banner on your site?

Try here to estimate image sizes if you don't know an exact size: http://altlab.com/images/bannerchart.gif

Make sure the image is fully enlarged in your browser - you may need to click again with the magnifying glass (I do in Chrome).
