Looking more for advice

Hi all,

I want to play around with making a .gif from some .pngs I have. At the moment I'm just playing and not expecting the world, but I have an idea of what i want to do.

My tools:

GIMP programme
4 banner images, similar but slightly different.

I want to turn those 4 separate images into 1 animated gif using GIMP.

HOW??!!

Any help very welcome!

What do you want to do to these 4 images? Make one transition into the other? All one image, but 4 images evolve (fly in etc.) to make it?

P.S. I don't think GIMP has that function.

Sorry, meant to say I want to slowly fade one into the next.

@eddiy: I want to do it myself! Just looking for advice so I can train myself! (without forking out for photoshop!)

Not sure how you do it in GIMP if i am honest however it will be done in frames, you have to specify the opacity and run it along a time frame until it goes down to 0% opacity (invisible) and then do the same again for the other image but in reverse so it fades in and not out.

OK, so here is what I'm trying to play with. Just decided I wanted to see if i could make the banner in my signature more interesting!

(Looped) I'd want one to fade into the other.

(The original files are better quality, these are just simple uploads.)

Are there any other ways of doing it?

Yea, so that's what I'm after... though if it can fade then that would be better... plus I really want to learn to do it!

I mean how was this created? It's 4 images fading into each other (slightly fast, but same effect!)

Not sure how you can do that in Gimp, but have a look for an animation/tween feature.

Tweening is basically the same as morphing, in the respect that it does it slowly

Are you able to post a screenshot of the animation window you get with GIMP?

I use gimp and I've made an animation before. Its easy. When you open gimp, there should be a window to the right showing you layers. Just drag the images into gimp and you will see in the layers window that they are above eachother. Then you can set the timing and all that. But when you save, save as .gif and it will ask you if you want to save as an animation. Press yes and there you go.

Nope... shows how new I am to the graphics side of things! I try and edit and mash together what I can with still images, and have learnt how to get transparent backgrounds... but that's it!

So thanks Kush for the advice. I will have a play around with that. I would also like to know how to fade, but am more than happy to play with this for now!

Thanks all

Got and ideia

make for example 5 copys of each image. each copy needs to have different opacity like 85%, 60%, 45%, 25% and 10%. Then you ajust the timing and wou'll get something close to a fading gif. did you understood?
