It don't matter, the original speed limit was introduced because the MoT were alarmed about AC Cars testing their latest Cobra on the M1 going 180mph back in 65.

The 70mph law was introduced way back in distant history when cars had drum brakes all around and took a light year to stop.
The law is well out dated and really needs looking at.

80mph will make no difference to anything. If people drive at 90mph now because the limit is 70 then it will not make them drive at 100mph if it's raised to 80.

People drive at what they are comfortable at, and it won't change.
