Should People Vote?

I get annoyed with my friends who dont bother to vote in the elections. They either say "I dont know what they propose etc", which gets me annoyed as its not hard to read up on the parties policies or they say "My vote will not change anything", if everyone had this attitude then nothing would ever get done.

If your going to vote see this thread: http://www.exceem.co.uk/forums/debat...ceem-poll.html

If your not going to vote please say why you don't vote.

Is it correct that for every person that doesn't vote, their vote automatically goes to the labour party?

If so, get voting people!

I think it's stupid that I can't vote. I'm 17 now and obviously you can't vote until you are 18, but what happens in this general election will affect me, so why can't I get a say in it? Really annoys me. Apparently Labour want to change the voting age to 16 for this next election.

I'm really getting into the Politics at the moment, with it being on sky news everyday.

I vote for 2 reasons 1) mother gets on my case about it (women died to give you the vote etc etc) and 2) it's a right not everyone has and we should use that right.

However I do think my vote is pretty much pointless. I live in an area that has voted Labour for decades, always giving them a large majority. We've had the same MP since I was born and about the only thing that would stop this area voting Labour would be them nuking the place.

My vote isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to who I end up with as an MP. And no party's policies will really make my life any better (single, non home owner with no kids who drives). But I'll still be using my vote.

but then if the age is taken down to 16... there will be 15 year olds saying it will affect them and why cant they vote

there always needs to be a cut off point

In the eyes of the govt your not an adult till your 18, thats why you always need parental consent when you want to do things. Therefore it wouldnt make sense if you were allow to vote because your not an adult lol

Yeah I understand that, but I thought parent consent was until 16? So I'm in the middle

Not everyone has to vote. Everyone has the right to do what they want as it is a democracy of course. However what irritates me is when people don't vote and have the audacity to complain about the Government. If you are going to complain then vote something other than the party you were complaining about.

Often though, the people compaining about the government are not complaining about the current governing party and their policies, they are complaining about general life bull****.. About matters that all mainstream political parties would ignore or treat in the same way.

I don't know, just like the concept of taxes. Stuff like: "The government is stupid, why do we have to give them almost half of our hard earned money that we work for?"

How about because we're not in a perfectly right-wing government, you idiot.

Tbh most of the country is quite ignorant to the uses of taxes and other things by government, doesnt help that the media usually feeds off this ignorance to get views...

It is funny when you hear people complianing about rises in tax and then go on to complain about cuts in the NHS or large classes in schools. I really think politics and economics should be taught in schools at a very young age.

If you decline your vote then you have no right to moan about the 'state of the country' as most of my friends put it.
