| I think it was the chicken, but thousands of years ago all the hens decided they wanted to party instead of walking around all day pregnant. so evolution kicks in and they start popping out eggs, so its chicken funky fun then out pops the egg and so the hens can go out and party.

| Follow the path of evolution right back along the descendants of chickens until you reach animals which you would no longer call chickens. They will still be laying eggs, although not chicken eggs, eggs for whatever animal they are. Now when the chicken first came into existance, it would be through genetic mutation in its predecessors eggs. So the egg came first, but it was laid by a different animal!  |
