![]() | Depends if you believe that God made the egg, of if God made the Chicken, of if God made it evolve, or if it evolved on it's own (invalid in my book). Either way, what does it matter? |

![]() | Simple. A chicken evolved from an ancestor species. However, the DNA structure of an organism doesn't change dramatically (apart from abnormalities such as cancer) during its lifetime - an organism's genes are determined during fertilization. The resulting genotype is a product of both the parent's genes and mutations, so at some point there must have been some combination of parents and mutations which resulted in a 'chicken'. Therefore, the egg came first. The real debate is at what point did the chicken stop being whatever species it was before. :P |

![]() | Wouldn't it depend on whether you're religious or not. The bible says that God created all birds on the fifth day of creation. |

![]() | I'm not sure if we'll ever find that out without dying first. Also, what's a chicken? What properties identify the bird as a chicken? And in that sense you must surely ask at what point did we discover the chicken. Much like if a tree falls and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? |

I once dumped a girlfriend because she didn't believe in dinosaurs (and she was EXTREMELY hot!) This could turn into a religion vs. science debate, but of course, what williamblah said is scientifically correct. There could be a debate as to whether there is a god, but as to evolution, it can't really be denied. I'm not saying there is no god, as it may be god that created all life, and evolution is part of that plan....

Maybe some day a similar thing will happen with evolution where everyone accepts it. Not that I've never actually met someone who doesn't think it's real to my knowledge... | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | anybody who thinks evolution is a yolk is just too chicken to admit it. or is a crazy creationist who's a few feathers short of a pillow

| iPod Shuffle | I don't know which parallel universe everybody else is living in - probably the one where I ought to be - but I think chickens and eggs were created in an Underworld laboratory to provide us mortal humans with something to do for hours and hours and hours. Of course, we could go with the logical argument that they evolved but that's no fun. I know humans who have disproven the theory of evolution. And when all else fails, I resort to the argument that maybe somebody rubbed two chickens back to back, put them in the fridge for 24 hours and an egg grew from a hole in their head... |
