![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ive never been hypnotized but a few friends have, and they all say its strange as you know what you are doing but when asked to do something you have no control but to do it. alot of people also say before operations if people are hypnotized and tell them that its a simple operation and they will recover quickly blar blar most when surveys carried out did show quicker improvements over those who hadnt been hypnotized. I couldnt ever be hypnotized as you have to allow yourself to "go under" as it were, and I have to be in control at all times. id say there are some proven facts about hypnosis being beneficial for paitents and people who open minded enough to allow themselfs to believe.

![]() | I have total believe in hynotism. And i would love to have a try at it. Did you ever used to watch "have we been here before" or something like that. It was on Itv i think and it was about past life. I believe in that- who wouldn't want to find out what they were before this life? |

| iPod 30gb | Aslong as the person is willing and easily manipulated/persuaded etc. and are able to go under a "trance" I believe it works, but like I say you need to be one of those people or else it would be totally useless, like myself I cannot be hypnotized because I' not easily lead/persuaded or want of a better word, where as all my friends can which is a shame because I want to know what it's like |

![]() | I watched a hypnotist in a dodgy bar in Gran Canaria in 1999, I probably would still be sceptical if 3 of my mates hadn't been volunteers. 2 were quickly eliminated for being too drunk, they weren't concentrating and thus didn't fall into the trance. The 3rd guy did fall into the trance and ended up doing all kinds of weird stuff, that he wouldn't do just because a stranger suggested it. I reckon most people who are "willing" to be hypnotsied can be, the guy that was hypnotised of the 3 is probably the most intelligent, none of them are idiots.

![]() | It's the sort of thing I'd have to have done to myself before I'll ever believe it. Though it does just seem a lot like the power of suggestion like what Derren Brown deals with. Last edited by Cefca; 07-11-09 at 12:45 PM.. |

![]() | With stage hypnotism I think a lot of the time it is just people doing what they believe is expected of them in that situation. One way of inducing a 'hypnotic trance' which does seem to work on people, whether they believe in hypnotism or not, is when the hypnotist makes the person confused and then gives them a way out of the confusion. For example, if you are meeting someone and they hold out their hand for a hand shake, but when you do the same they don't shake your hand instead they grab your arm and place your hand on your forehead. In this unexpected situation you will be momentarily surprised and you won't know what to do, during this void the hypnotist will tell you what he wants you to do and you will do what he asks as he is giving you a way out of your confusion.

| Call me Ben .... | Definitely works. You are put in a state of extreme relaxation and then you will be told to do stuff and your body will follow it in its fragile state. Very interesting though and i would be interested to see if it could happen on me! |

| Free Tibet! | I have a huge interest on hypnotism. I have succesfully hypnotised my ex gf (although clearly not well enough!). Ignore all the stage bull crap, it all makes sense if you do some research. It's a fascinating subject matter, and I am quite astounded that most people have little knowledge of it. It isn't anything weird or strange or paranormal - I am a strong atheist and do not believe in anything that could be considered paranormal. If you are open minded and rational, and read up enough about it, you will understand how it works, and how it makes sense and isn't crazy! If anyone wants to know anything about it then feel free to ask me, I would like to think I'm quite an expert! I will post a note about how the hypnotism went with the ex gf and run through what I did. I will also find some scripts if any of you guys fancy giving it a go? I need to find them in the depths of my computer but they are in there somewhere. I'd recommend either doing a relaxation one which will basically just relax your 'subject' and then leave them feeling invigorated and refreshed (maybe better for wife/gf etc?) or doing a test one, which basically goes through a few bits and pieces and essentially tests how responsive your 'subject' is to hypnosis. That one is a bit more interesting than the last one. Anyway I will talk more when I don't need to watch Misfits on catch-up because I am hooked and missed it yesterday!

| Free Tibet! | Too late to edit, I hope I didn't come across as a dick in that post, I'm just excited to be able to contribute. I didn't actually read the thread through, and so i hope i don't sound really patronising or anything, because I promise I wasn't being!

| Free Tibet! | http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~kihlst...C%20Script.pdf That is one of the suggestibility tests similar to the one I used before. And this is a link to the Wikipedia article about the suggestibility tests: Hypnotic susceptibility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I actually used the "Form A" test, but can't find that at the moment, and I'm at my gfs and her mac is a pain in the arse, but I will try and find some more bits for you guys.

![]() | So far science has not been able to prove or disprove hypnosis. We know that it works to a certain degree, but we don't really understand how or why, as it relates to the human mind. And even then this effectiveness is questionable at best. When someone undergoes hypnosis they feel relaxed and enter a state of heightened imagination, but it also helps people to focus on one thing at a time. For example, think about when you watch TV sometimes. You sometimes get so into it that you don't pay attention to what's going on around you (people talking, dog running around, etc). This is kind of like hypnosis. But is it beneficial or harmful is maybe the question we should be asking. We know it occurs even in every day life when people zone out or daydream, but so far there have been no viable scientific explanations. |
