Abortion! right or wrong?

Over the past few years I've had friends fall pregnant and have been left with the dilemma to either have an abortion, or, to go through with the pregnancy and have a child.

In my opinion, to have an abortion under the right circumstances, e.g. Not being able to support the child financially or simply too young and not in a suitable environment, are very legitimate reasons for an abortion.

For these reasons I am pro abortion and think that it is in the best interests of the child. Although I do believe that the time frame to have the abortion should be reduced.

Should or shouldn't abortions be allowed?

Right, my opinion is we should have the choice, even using protection which is suppose to prevent pregnancy is not 100% sure proof! Then the couples choice was never to have a baby but just to have sex!

I am against it, it's murder i think personally and i can't see how it's justifiable. This could be quite a debatable subject as i'm sure people will have strong views whether it should or shouldn't be allowed!

Im probably gonna get flamed for this but...

Im anti abortion, unless the mother's life is at risk.

My reasoning is that from conception, in my opinion there is a living thing in the mothers womb. No-one should have the right to take another human being's life, it can be argued it is murder. All life should be cherished and i believe the sanctity of life is more important than quality of life.

There are a lot of contraceptions out there which are easy to get hold of and shouldnt put people off them. If people choose to have casual unprotected sex, they have to realise that there are consiquences and reactions to their actions. I dont think killing a child can be said as being in the best interests of it.

God is the only one who should be able to take lives away.

only reason i would have an abortion or agree an unborn child be aborted would be if they found some major defect and that it would have a very low quality of life and low life span.

mattyb has a spectacular aura about
I've recently become a father and before I would have said "yep - abort right up until the maximum allowable date" and "if the foetus doesn't take a breath it's not alive".

Now however my opinion has changed drastically and I find it's not so black and white. As with everything I suppose, a greying comes with age but I think the circumstances need to be exceptional for abortion. Medical reasons are acceptable - if my child was going to be born with a genetic disease for example then yes I would abort.
But financial reasoning? Well I think that's unnaceptable. You can never afford a child and to put money as the rationale for ending a life is frankly ludicrous.

In my opinion, it depends on a situation. For example, if someone got raped, then of course they have a right to have an abortion.

This was going to be my next post. I know its pushing the debate to extreme cases but would rape, incest or any other violent act change the minds of people againt abortions?

I can hear the saint exercising his typing fingers as we speak.

the problem with attaching a stigma to abortion, whether moral or religius, is that it drives young girls to struggle on without telling anyone and ending up bleading to death in a public toilet somewhere and the babie dies anyway.

there should be freedom of choice but I think this should be associated with councelling, both for grief and also regarding adoption

I was apalled and horrified to read about the ivf mix up where the egg was implanted into the wrong woman and she had an abortion. She should at least have considered surrogacy, after all she had no genetic bond to the baby. This is the only time I have ever considered abortion to be unjustified.

sorry, but ontopic... i think you shouldnt be allowed willy nilly, and that it should only be considered under special circumstances. A girl I went out with got pregnant and didnt want the baby as she was too young (15 at the time) and had no way to finance herself properly let alone the baby. In the end the baby died before she was able to go ahead with abortion, but she was really upset that the baby died, and it made me think what she would have been like if it was her choice that the baby was to be killed

I dont like talking about this to people, but thought it might be a good and relevant time to explain a situation without being asked that exact question
