PS3 Owners beware.

I'm sure most of you are aware of the PS3 Jailbreak that occured recently, well sony are beginning to shoot themselves in the foot as they've just announced that in coming updates they are stopping the support of 3rd party USB peripherals in order to "protect" the console from any malicious goings on.

This means that if you are updating some time in the future and are using a Mad Catz controller for example. It may no longer work and you'll have to fork out the full fee for the official controller.

Seems like they are beginning to get a bit out of hand with the whole jailbreak thing.

Don't you have to update to the latest software to play online though? If so, then you don't really have any choice :s

Don't do it by USB then, do it directly from the ps3.

You do have the choice if you don't mind not playing online.

I haven't been online in mine in a good few weeks and don't really miss it at all. I'm doing more with my PS3 now than I have in ages.

I only ever use the ps3 for online gaming atm, haven't played offline since around feb this year i think.

I think it stinks that you can't just ignore the update until you are ready to update, and still be able to use the console the way you want to, it's like windows update, i never update when it tells me to. I pospone it as many times as i can before i get fed up of the pop up reminders!

Yeah, that's always an option, but people shouldn't have to sacrifice online play simply to keep using peripherals they've paid for.

I agree that Sony has gone way over the top with this

updates should NEVER be compulsory, its your property you payed money for it they dont have the right to tell you what you can/ cannot do on it. P.S im typing this on a PS3 now lol get custom firmware/ use ur pcs ip as ur DNS, there are lots of ways to skip updating

They do when it involves piracy which is what they're trying to stop with this.

They'll probably release more updates to sort out things like controllers.

The problem with the 360 is that well it's erm a 360, lol. I'm not a hater, I guess you either like one or the other and I've always been a PS boy (and nintendo for the zelda games, the only reason i buy their consoles lol)

It doesn't bother me either. I only really get annoyed when somebody has a PS3 and says they're better than me at COD. Means I don't get a chance to whoop their ass

i have a ps3 i keep updated for online play and one on 3.41 i have jailbroke for dev stuff

i can transfer stuff i do on the 3.41 to the 3.50 without updating either of them so its ok if its like that

but i dont blame them going so 'over the top' they spent MILLIONS on the security for the ps3, more than any other company has on a console before, and now there is a huge exploit the only way for them to properly fix it is to do that =/

Well I'm trying to earn a PS3 from freebiejeebies and planned to add more memory from a disk drive...I guess I wont be able to do that...Unless they only ban "certain" usb drives...

Sony are brining out a 320GB slim model in October. You can also upgrade the hard drive and replace it with a 3.2" SATA HDD or SSD (solid state drive).

There's a negligible difference though. All these comparisons they have between the two, there's only ever tiny details that most people will either not even notice or just not care.

They arent banning all 3rd party, only ones not approved by sony, and you can no longer use your phones with it ( these were being used to jailbreak them)

Oh and ps3 has the better exclusives, and more of them for that matter
