New Nintendo DSi XL

Just been looking for some DS games on Amazon and saw this - Nintendo DSi XL Handheld Console (Wine Red): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

I still don't see the point of this XL version..

May be useful for your grandparents, but that's not the age group they should be aiming for..

This has been confirmed for aaages now, and I agree, pretty pointless, but will still sell in the thousands no doubt.

I believe I remember hearing that it had some brilliant sales in Japan in its launch week, but I'm starting to feel that Nintendo are starting to take the piss, with the DS, DS Lite, DSi and now this, they're just putting their software in new shapes, and expecting more people to buy it.

I'll be keeping my DS Lite until they make a completely new console

If it sells, then it would be good for freebie hunters even though the console itself is rubbish

I'm not sure I remember much change in greenage when the DSi was launched and I don't expect much when this one comes out.

It does seem like a pretty pointless update. I'd fully prepare yourselves for a NDS 2 (whole new system completely) to be shown at this years E3 though!

Lol pointless, prefer the psp to the ds, even though i hardly use my psp!

I also liked mj10's post in that thread posted in the OP saying that he didn't know if the iPhone was coming out on orange.... so that's two rumours that have now come true

Actually this clearly the market that Nintendo are trying to break. Just look at the Wii and the adverts they produce. At the time of launch they gave free systems to care homes etc... There was much media coverage of Old people enjoying the Nintendo Wii instead of watching TV together.

And either way this size DS is perfect for people between 50-60 (parents and grandparents). It's clear that including an additional DS Pen (as well as stylus) is trying to get the older generation comfortable using the DS (e.g. doing soduku and crosswords using the Pen just like in real life).

Also its useful in general. The bigger scren is an attractive feature for most users regardless of age. Secondly the battery life is longer (a bigger DS means they can increase the batter size). Again this is an attractive feature for everyone.

Last but not least this also opens a market for younger Children who will be able to use the DS more comfortably with a larger screen.

Overall Nintendo certainly aren't stupid. They know there market and they've captured it incredibly. My girlfriend has a DS and I once had a PSP. The PSP is great, it looks great, feels great, has great graphics and a great quality screen. However it seriously lacks playability. My girlfriend and I can play on the DS for hours (Zelda, Proffessor layton etc...). The PSP was good for nothing more than 30 minute sperts of fun. I'm sure newer games like Little Big Planet are incredible on the PSP (they are great fun on the PS3). Unfortunately the PSP tried to be too grown up and it lost the fun factor.

Either way, nobodies opinion is right or wrong and its all down to what games you enjoy playing.

I already made a thread about that. It was confirmed a long time ago. Is XL released now? DSi LL was released in Japan 3 or 4 months ago.
