Backup PS3

I wanted to use the PS3 backup utility to backup my data, mainly save games since I intend to give the console to my cousin but wanted a copy in case I get another one.

Only one slight problem. I don't have any way of getting the backup off the PS3. I don't have an external card reader I could connect and my USB HD is formatted as NTFS which the PS3 doesn't support.

Anyone know what I can do.

Re: Backup PS3

Well, I used a external Laptop Caddy and connected it to my PC via usb 2.0 port, and then simply took out the hard disk from the PS3 and inserted it. Copied across to the PC hard disk.

I would except it has 111GB worth of data on it that I don't want to loose.

Re: Backup PS3

I plug my external hard drive into PS3 to watch films on it.

Should work fine to back up stuff on.

Re: Backup PS3

You just need to get something like this: h_ttp://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=45053&doy=17m7 you can then copy the data to your PC's hard disk.

Re: Backup PS3

It would appear you can't backup the data to the PS3 HD itself. So I ended up clearing some old stuff off my USB HD (which is just an HD in an enclosure), adding a new FAT32 partition and connecting it to my PS3.

I made the new partition 15GB. Hopefully it will be enough since I don't have a lot of movies etc on it, just game saves, a few game demos as well as settings.

It just seems a bit stupid to me that Sony provide a backup utility for the PS3 but no way to do it over the network connection. After all not everyone will have a USB HD or card reader.
