You can even get DVI to HDMI convertors for a few quid which would allow you to output on DVI into a HDMI enabled device

Just ordered 9 £2.99 hd dvds, just want oceans 11+12 now (have 13) and transformers and my collection is complete!

Transformers is £6.99 and oceans 11+12 are £4.49, theres still some movement in those prices so i'll get them when they drop a bit more! As ive said before (i know its never going to happen) if MS could pull the whole dead format thing around and get the studios back in they would be set with so many players out there people would start buying and adding to their bargain collection. But due to contracts with blu ray, thats never gonna happen but im really happy with one of them losing (cheap HD for us all!). Format makes no difference to me since they will all be ripped to a HD media PC eventually anyway!


Oh and for anyone who hasnt got planet earth yet (got mine free if you didnt see!), its seriously awesome. Possibly the best HD video and audio (surround sound makes it even better) ive seen so far. Will be even better when i get a 50" and or HD projector! If you can get it for £15 or less buy buy buy before its gone!

I know HD-DVD is dead but...

Do you think if Microsoft had made the HD DVD drive part of the 360 as opposed to an add-on it might have made a stronger case for HD DVD, as it would mean there was already so many million HD DVD drives in circulation.

Just a thought.

I thought the elite had the hddvd drive built into it?

I think MS were playing it safe, had HD-DVD won the format war, they would have boasted how wonderfull they were/are for supporting it, if they loose, they discount the hddvd drive, and release a blue ray one in time for xmas

I was wrong, I was thinking of a update to the elite that allowed 1080i on the elite with the hddvd drive attached (best you get on non elite is 720 from a quick search)

Nope no hddvd drive in an elite (just black, 120gb hdd and hdmi).

As for whether things would of gone differently if ms had integrated the drive into the console im not too sure, it may have helped but would of obviously pushed the price up which could of effected their overall console sales (just like the ps3 sales were pretty slow at the beginning). I actually think MS actually make money on their consoles, but i believe sony (may be different now due to lower component prices) were actually making a loss and subsidising the console themselves at the beginning since all the money is in game sales and getting the consoles out there is key. I think MS were playing it safe having it seperate and available to those who wanted it and didnt decide to force it on people.

Now that the future is clear im sure a blu ray addon will be available soon and they may eventually at the drive internally to the elite or something once the whole format properly takes off.

You can get 1080i over component on a normal console, i do. You can get 1080p over vga or hdmi i think.

Alos, Transformer can be found at hmv for £6.99 plus you can get Fast & The Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift for a total of £10.97 from hmv.. the triple pack is selling for over £35 on both hmv and play.com! Now, if they only could lower the prices on The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King then I think my collection is more or less complete!
