Re: xbox 360 hd dvd drive now £24.99

Do you get that remote thing with all of the HD DVD drives or was it a bonus from amazon?

Gamestation are doing the HD DVD drive and 2 HD DVDs for £29.99 (there is £4.95 delivery charge mind you so works out at £34.84.

Re: xbox 360 hd dvd drive now £24.99

the remote comes with the HDDVD drive, with shops doing the hddvd drive for £15 now, and the remote costing £20 alone, its a bit of a no brainer to get the HDDVD drive, even for just the remote (which is nice and lights up and looks nice next to the controllers!)

you would be better off looking at HMV or play.com or Amazon for the hddvd's would get more for your money if you got hte drive and the hddvds seperatly

This is probably a n00b question but out of curiosity, is there any chance to use the xBox360 HD DVD in your PC?

Cheers

not no chance, it just needs a bit of 'tweaking' !!:

Xbox-Scene News: XBOX360 HD-DVDRom UDF Reader v2.5 Windows XP BluePrint

also: I just spent slightly over £78 on HD DVD's and got about 20 from HMV !!!

Thanks for the link.. if there been a driver download on there I might buy the HD drive.. any chance you might now where one is or what kind of "tweaking" I need to do to make it work? Must say that £4 per HD DVD is rather good value for your money!

Cheers
Tom

PS Sorry for the slight highjack of the thread!

The main advantage would be if you have VGA or DVI out capable of full HD, I wouldn't invest in it if you were only going to watch it on your 15" or 17" monitor

Thanks Stephen.. I actually did a google and come up with the same site as you suggested above.. should have thought of that before asking ehhh!

Might decide to invest in this drive.. only thing is how can I find out if my monitor is capable of full HD? Its a Samsung 226BW.. my graphic card is ok according to the digital-digest site.. just need to upgrade my drivers though..

Cheers

No worries, glad to help even if it's not particularly 'specialist' advice

The native resolution of your screen is 1,680 x 1,050. It will scale the image horizontally for 1080 content and downscale the image for 720 material. From the reviews I've read so far it handles both well:

Quote:

Indeed, when watching both standard definition and high definition content I was impressed by the detail and contrast on offer particularly in darker scenes with good motion. The screen also isn’t as overly reflective as some displays are.

The native resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 is just shy of full HD in terms of vertical resolution, so it’ll have to scale down for Full HD and scale up for 720p content, but the screen dealt well with both.

Verdict

The Samsung SyncMaster 226BW combines a stylish housing, and great features such as HDCP compatibility on its DVI port, with very impressive image quality. It’s a combination that means that it wins an award and makes it the pick of the 22in bunch.
Go on, go for it - you know it makes sense Rodders

Sounds like a plan, Gamestation HD DVD's start at £8 though so may be better to pop into HMV to see if they have any stock left in store?
