I'm half Scottish but I don't see it as a Scottish thing - just a ned thing really, so don't feel too bad.

I was in town yesterday visiting the new courts and it was a really nice atmosphere during the day at least. Very loud, a bit rowdy, but good natured and friendly. It was really sunny and generally just a really nice atmosphere. I was only slightly annoyed at them having to cancel the Trams in the city centre because they rangers fans weren't sensible enough to stay off the tracks!!

I went in at 9am and there were thousands of people carrying 18 packs of Carlinon each shoulder and drinking on the grass - crazy!!

Thats the thing though, it could have ended up being known as a great party. 200,000 thousand fans seeing their team in Europe but instead it will be remembered as the night the Rangers fans rioted in Manchester even if it was only a few hundred of them.

What opened my eyes was footage of this bloke who didn't want any trouble. Riot police just charged at him, and a police dog bit his leg out of place. If they didn't want trouble, they didn't deserve it in my opinion.

I wouldn't point the finger at Scotland either. Just football hooligans in general.

The footage I saw was of the police running from the crowd, one fell and the crowd swooped on him like animals taking down weak prey.

Suppose there is two sides to every story.

Football hooligans aren't the worst aspect of being Scottish in any case

but seriously, they're not fans, they're pitiful, shameful, brainless thugs who should be barred entry from any football ground in my opinion.

Yeah because England's away game football support have a spotless record...right?

Wrong, football hooliganism is everywhere, this isn't an isolated incident, it just disgusts you guys in particular because it happened in your own country and you didnt get a piece of the action.

I'm not condoning it, i'm just trying to show that it's not an uncommon occurance.

If he was attacked there was surely a reason for it. Perhaps he had done something earlier and then recognised?

That was what I saw firstly and couldn't believe it. And then there was a chav filming it on his mobile phone ... So glad tht police man got away in the end!

Was that aimed at me? If so, i would like to point out:
(1) I'm not English
(2) Of course all nations have their hooligans. I've seen it enough times in Wales!
(3) All hooligans should be sent to prison which is what i said, and not just the Scottish as you interpreted from my previous reply. But also i said that will never happen.
(4) I know it's a small minority - It's a small minority in every nation, but at the end of the day they are hooligans, which spoil it for for the overwhelming majority.

He may just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think that often in cases like this, a group start rioting and those unfortunate enough to be in the same area are assumed to be involved even when they aren't.
